Chapter 1

In chapter one of “They Snooze, You Lose,” author Lynell Burmark suggests for presenters to tweak their current PowerPoint presentations in order to achieve better outcomes. The author’s focus suggests to make improvements in three categories: templates, color, and type. Templates can be custom made and the presenter should be creative in designing different layouts other than using the default layouts. When entering text, remember that the eyes read from left to right and text should be entered in this manner. Burmark strongly suggests the use of digital color in presentations should be taken advantage of and that black and white, since is more costly, should be reserved for the handout According to Burmark, type should be considered as one would design an advertisement billboard. In the section Quantity then Quality, Burmark suggests that the presenter reduce the number of words on the slides and then figure out a way to display the slide in order to be most effective. As one designs the slides in their presentation, one should take into account the selection of fonts for legibility and remember that lowercase letters are faster to read than capital letters.
